JULY 13
Colonialism, capitalism, and careerism are fatiguing. Join The Vermin for a shittalking, linocut printmaking workshop facilitated by artist and printmaker Laura Grier.
As we explore in Issue 03 of The Vermin, craft is a word of ample energies and meanings that can indicate anything from pastimes, to artisanal creative traditions, and even to scheming. We expand on these ideas, channeling the weight of political atmospheres into crafting messages. In this workshop, participants will talk shit about capitalism and colonialism, cutting their messages into linoleum blocks for print-making on paper, fabric, or any material that can absorb ink. Come empty handed, or bring old canvas bags, shirts, or other textiles that need new life. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

JULY 26
Join The Vermin for Solar-Cuts, a cyanotype workshop in collaboration with The Artist Studio and facilitated by Gabrielle Tyrie. Slow down, step into the sun, and make some meaningful prints by hand.
Coming off of issue 03 of The Vermin, printmaking can be understood as a way of slowing down, paying attention, and giving material form to meaningful ideas. In this workshop, participants will use one of photography's earliest printing processes to create rich blue cyanotypes using sunlight. Transform a meaningful photograph from your phone into a lasting print, or experiment with photograms by arranging objects directly onto light-sensitive paper. Whether preserving a cherished memory or simply enjoying the magic of analogue image-making, participants will leave with unique prints shaped by light itself.
Materials provided - feel free to bring your own personal objects for photogramming.

The Vermin is partnering with Writers Against the War on Gaza Toronto and Colour Code for a workshop on publishing and political movements as part of Zine Dream, an annual small press art fair in Toronto.
Learn how to make your own publication and how to publish in lockstep with political struggle. This three-part workshop will guide participants through the process of creating your own independent publication, from finding the money, to working with a team, to editing, designing, and printing. We will pay special attention to how publishing relates to political movements in particular, and work through examples of forms of political writing and publishing. By the end, participants will be empowered to produce their own printed matter for movement work and create a piece of printed matter to take home. A part of the proceeds will be sent to the Sameer Project, a rapid-response fund for families in the Gaza strip.
